UFC 116: George Sotiropolous vs. Kurt Pellegrino
2021-07-06

The two lightweights will make for an interesting fight on July 3 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. Both are small, of course. Kurt Pellegrino, a native of New Jersey, measures in at just 5 foot 8 and 155 pounds. George Sotiropolous, a native of Australia, also weighs in at 155 pounds but owns a two-inch height advantage at 5 foot 10. The two are also similarly aged.

Sotiropolous, nicknamed “The Wizard of Oz”, has little training in wrestling but learned from some of the best MMA fighters in the field of Brazilian ju-jitsu, much to the joy of UFC betting.

Pellegrino, on the other hand, has an extensive wrestling background but is also trained in Brazilian ju-jitsu. The two are each fairly new to the world of UFC, as Pellegrino first fought for the UFC in UFC 61 but didn’t earn his first win until UFC 64, and Sotiropolous first fought for the UFC in an April 2008 Fight Night event in which he TKO’ed Roman Mitichyan.

Each of the two fighters’ overall MMA records are very solid, with Pellegrino holding a 21-4 overall record and Sotiropolous’ record a pristine 12-2.

They have never fought against each other, but the two fighters’ recent records can go a long way toward determining who should be expected to win this bout.

The thing is, they both have been very efficient in the Octagon of late. Since he beat Mitichyan in 2008, Sotiropolous has not lost a UFC bout, beating his last three opponents — George Roop, Jason Dent and Joe Stevenson.

Pellegrino has won his last four fights, dating back to September 2008. Two of those victories came by the same form of submission, a rear naked choke that has become a specialty of Pellegrino’s.

In Pellegrino’s ten-match UFC career, only three fights have gone the full final minutes — and he’s won two of them. Only one of Sotiropolous’ four bouts have gone the distance.

So what can you expect out of the fight when Sotiropolous and Pellegrino meet on July 3? Two things. One, Pellegrino will attempt to wrestle his way out of everything Sotiropolous attempts. He has proven — especially in his fight against Josh “The Dentist” Neer last year — that he can withstand damage and outlast fighters, even when his effort is questionable as it was during that fight. And two, Sotiropolous will attempt just about everything, as he typically does in his bouts. The Australian fighter is just about as well-rounded as they come in UFC, and if past fights mean anything, it’s likely he will be able to find something that neutralizes Pellegrino’s wrestling and ju-jitsu focus.

Essentially, expect the two fighters to be abnormally well-prepared to face each other, and expect Pellegrino to do his best to outsmart Sotiropolous, but Sotiropolous may just be the favorite because of his ability to pull a variety of moves out of his bag of tricks.

Wanderlei Silva vs. Yoshihi Akiyama on UFC 116
2021-06-18

The long awaited fight between Football Live Betting Odds Online Sportsbook Wanderlei Silva and Yoshihiro Akiyama is all set to happen. If the recent reports are to be believed these two fighters would be in the ring facing each other for UFC 116 on July 3. Still now there was only rumors abbot the fight, but sources close to the situation has confirmed that an agreement has been signed upon to fight for UFC116 in Las Vegas.

These two fighters are pitched in the middle weight category and their fight is sure to give memorable experiences to the audiences all around the world. Wanderlei Silva (33-10-1 MMA, 3-5 UFC) is a veteran in this field but Yoshihiro Akiyama (13-1-2 MMA, 1-0 UFC) is sure to give him a tough fight. And all UFC betting are keeping a close eye on this fight.

There were rumors that the fight was fixed for UFC 115, which was to be held in Vancouver, British Columbia on June 12th. But the officials have announced that the fight is fixed for UFC 116. There is no official confirmation but the fight is expected to take place in the MGM grand Garden Arena on July 3rd. The UFC 116 has already got into the news as Brock Lesnar who is the current heavyweight champion would be also in the ring. His opponent has still not been decided but there is much anticipation on the fight. Lesnar has a huge fan following and is the favorite for the fight.

Most bookies are betting high on Silva due to his recent performances. In his last fight, UFC 110 he had a unanimous victory over his opponent Michael Bisping. This victory has given high an upper hand on his scheduled fight against Yoshihiro Akiyama. Earlier there were some doubts raised on Silva’s performance and many even believed that he was not viable for a long term. In the UFC 92, Silva lost the fight 1-3 against Quinton “Rampage” Jackson much to the surprise of UFC betting fans everywhere.

The fight between Silva and Akiyama was first scheduled for UFC 110. Then the promotion thought that Bisping would be a better option for the fight to be held in Australia and axed Akiyama. This UFC 110 fight was the 33 year old Silva’s first after undergoing a surgery for the tissue damage done to his nose and face. Silva holds a record of five year without any loss in the PRIDE organization. This record stand still even now but his former team mate, Anderson Silva, who is the current middle weight champion has the chance to break his record since he has completed four years without any loss in the ring.

Akiyama is sure to give Silva a run for his money. The fighter made his debut in UFC on July last year in UFC 100 against Alan Belcher. He won the fight after a controversial split decision but was the clear winner from the view of the audience.  In an interview on last February, Akiyamo had commented that he was very sad on the cancelled fight that was fixed with Silva and expected that he would get a chance to fight Silva in the near future.  The fight between Silva and Akiyama was originally scheduled for UFC 115, but it was later postponed. Then promotion did announce that the fight would be a summer event.

Silva might be carrying huge experience behind him, but would have to bring his full power out as Akiyama would surely give him some good fight. Akiyama has technically not lost a fight since March 2005. Two of his most hyped fights against Kazushi Sakuraba and Kazuo Mizaki ended in a controversial “no contest” results.
